Emergencies – PS Centre services

During emergencies, the PS centre offers the following assistance to those providing support for the affected population:

Technical briefing and debriefing of PSS delegates, PS responders and PS focal points

Technical briefing and debriefing of PSS delegates, responders and focal points serve the purpose of making sure that each staff goes on mission with knowledge about relevant materials, interventions, people and organisations to contact etc. It also serves as a valuable source of knowledge sharing and coordination. The briefing and debriefing can take place face to face in Copenhagen, Denmark, via telephone, skype or e-mail. Briefing and debriefing is offered to National Society and IFRC delegates.

Technical support to PSS delegates, PS responders and PS focal points

Technical support could be, for example, input on job descriptions, assessments, plans of action, training programme/curriculum, adaptation of IEC material, guidance on monitoring and evaluation, input on the development of new material related to the specific disaster, guidance on relevant material to be used etc. Technical support can be given either remotely (phone, skype, e-mail) or through field visits. If you would like a field visit, please include this in your budget line, so that you are able to cover transport internationally and locally as well as accommodation. The PS Centre will cover salary and per diem for the technical advisor.

Advise PNSs in the selection of PSS delegates/volunteers/responders

The PS Centre does not deploy or hire delegates, volunteers or responders. This is always done by individual National Societies or the International Federation (sometimes as joint deployments between NS and IFRC). Rather, the PS Centre offers to assist National Societies and other departments of the IFRC in identifying and selecting candidates for psychsoocial support positions or rosters. The PS Centre can also help write a profile of desired candidates for specific assignments, comment on job descriptions and terms of references etc.

Provide input on PSS for trainings (e.g. for volunteers, health personnel, other ERU bodies, FACT, RDRT, team leaders etc.)

For an overview of the existing training curriculum, please see the training section

Support in identifying trainers and co-facilitators

Facilitate PSS trainings and orientation workshops

If you would like the PS Centre to facilitate trainings, please include this in your budget line, so that you are able to cover transport internationally and locally as well as accommodation. The PS Centre will cover salary and per diem for the technical advisor.

Ship hard copies of requested material

Many of the PS Centre’s materials are available in hard-copy, in different languages. For most of the materials, the PS Centre charges a price, which covers the cost of printing and shipping. Costs of shipping depend on the country to which the materials are to be sent and the weight of the parcel. For an overview of materials available in hard-copy, prices and information about how to order please see here
