The PS Centre is pleased to announce the release of two new training manuals: Caring for Volunteers training manual and Different. Just like you training guide.
Different. Just like you: A psychosocial approach promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities: Training guide is a one-day training workshop based on the handbook of the same name. It is aimed at professionals and volunteers who are interested in planning psychosocial activities that include persons with disabilities. The main goal of the training is to create awareness of the importance of psychosocial support and inclusion in promoting the well-being of persons with disabilities. The training seeks to enable participants to identify barriers to participation in psychosocial activities, and to give them the tools for setting up psychosocial activities that include persons with disabilities.
The training guide includes a detailed hour-by-hour plan, list of needed materials, key terms and vocabulary, activity cards and an evaluation form. The training can be delivered as a one-day workshop or included as part of a longer programme, such as a basic training in psychosocial support. The training guide can be downloaded here.
Caring for Volunteers: Training Manual complements Caring for Volunteers: A Psychosocial Support Toolkit, which focuses on the well-being of volunteers in situations of crisis or catastrophe. The goal of the two-day training is to better train and prepare volunteers in helping beneficiaries, and to help volunteers learn to recognize signs of stress and take better care of themselves and each other. The manual includes key concepts and definitions needed by trainers in the field. It articulates possible risks to volunteers’ well-being, and presents strategies for reducing those risks. It includes sessions on self-care, peer support and PFA and has guidance on how to set up a support system for volunteers and on monitoring and evalua¬tion. The training also includes a valuable session on making an action plan to follow up the work done in the training. The training manual and training materials including handouts and two sets of PowerPoint slides (for basic training and ToT) are available for download here.
Keep an eye on the training calendar on the PS Centre’s homepage for upcoming training workshops.
