PSS in Emergencies Africa Regional Training

Please note that this training is for Red Cross Red Crescent staff and volunteers in the Africa region only.

Duration: 4,5 days
In times of emergency psychosocial responders are responsible for planning and supporting basic PS activities as part of the work in the emergency response. Based on practical exercises and role playing mixed with presentations, this training prepares the psychosocial responder for work in the field by understanding basic concepts of PSS in emergencies as well as planning and implementing PSS activities.
• Understand basic concepts of crisis event and psychosocial support
• Assess needs of the affected population
• Be able to plan, design and implement PS activities
• Be able to integrate child protection and protection aspects in PS programming
• Understand how to set up child and other friendly spaces
• Reflect on the role and mandate of their National Society in crisis events
• Explore how to ensure linkages with other sectors
• Be aware of the importance of coordination and cooperation with other stakeholders
• Practice how to prepare and train volunteers working with PS programmes
• Understand the importance of caring for staff and volunteers
Red Cross Red Crescent domestic emergency responders in the Africa region working with psychosocial support, especially psychosocial support programme managers and managers responsible for psychosocial support port folios, and DM managers and psychosocial support staff/volunteers. It is important to have basic knowledge of psychosocial support (training in community-based psychosocial support or the equivalent) as well as having some practical experience in the psychosocial field. The training will be conducted in English so all participants must have sufficient English skills to participate actively in the training. The participants must be able to fund themselves either through their National Society or through support from Partner National Societies.
Dates, deadlines and other important information:
There is no registration cost for the training and no training fee. If you wish to participate in the training, your National Societies and/or Partner National Societies will be expected to cover all travel costs associated with the training, as well as accommodation, meals and per diems.
Cost for accommodation per night 25 dollars (4-5 nights depending on whether your return flight is Friday night or Saturday morning)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, refreshments and 1 common dinner): 150 USD for 5 days
Airport pick up and drop off can be arranged if requested.
The training takes place at Rwanda Red Cross , KG 15 ave. Kacyiru, Kigali, Rwanda
Participants must be able to participate in the entire training, arriving before 2 pm on the first training day and departing from the training venue no earlier than 5 pm on the last day of training
