Partnership and resource mobilization advisor – maternity cover

The PS Centre is looking for a partnerships and resource mobilization advisor to join our international team in Copenhagen at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support (PS Centre)

As the Partnership and resource mobilization advisor, you will play a key role in the PS Centre through resource mobilization and partnership building with current and new donors and other strategic partners, with a particular focus on institutional donors and private foundations and in addition to that with the Red Cross network and other humanitarian stakeholders.

The annual turnover of the PS Centre is 1,3 million Euro with funding from National Societies, of which Danish Red Cross is the largest contributor, institutional donors (including EU DEVCO, Horizon 2020 and UN donors) and private foundations. Our ambition is to expand our current funding base to support more National Societies across the world.

As a specialised Centre of Excellence, we support the global Red Cross Red Crescent Movement comprising 192 National Societies in promoting and enabling the psychosocial well-being of beneficiaries, staff and volunteers. We achieve this through 1) providing technical support, including trainings, assessments, support in disasters and other emergencies and long-term capacity building, 2) generating and sharing new knowledge, tools and approaches on mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and 3) communication and advocacy efforts with relevant stakeholders.

The PS Centre consists of a small, international team of 15 full time staff with complementary technical, strategic and managerial functions. Our day-to-day work is challenging and busy but injected with humour and a positive spirit. We achieve most of our goals by working closely together and we value our collaborative working environment highly.

The position is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and some travel is expected.

Key tasks and responsibilities 

  • Translate the PS Centre’s resource mobilization plan into action and identify potential partners and opportunities for new partnerships including with institutional donors (e.g. EU, ECHO, EU Horizon 2020, UN), bilateral donors and embassies, NGOs and research institutions, and private foundations (e.g. Oak Foundation).
  • Lead and coordinate fundraising initiatives and proposals in close collaboration with other members of the team, including partnership development as well as drafting narrative proposals and budgets.
  • Coordinate funding efforts related to partnerships with National Societies and ensure that all relevant agreements are in place
  • Maintain existing donor relations and partnerships including provision of regular reporting and other communications
  • Liaise with DRC finance officer to financially report to donors as needed.
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts and events
  • Support the Director and the team in drafting strategic documents and policy briefs as needed
  • Support the Director of the PS Centre, including in coordinating and arranging partnership projects and meetings with internal and external partners
  • Liaise closely with relevant partners at the IFRC Secretariat in Geneva and the Red Cross Movement as well as relevant partners outside the Red Cross Movement

Experience and skills

  • Relevant university degree (social sciences, development studies or similar)
  • Relevant professional training courses (Red Cross Red Crescent courses, humanitarian and development sector, management, etc.)                 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with resource mobilization from institutional donors (EU/ECHO, Danida, UN) and private donors, and preferably also implementation of projects funded by these donors.
  • Experience with Horizon 2020 EU Research and Innovation programmes is an added value.
  • Demonstrated skills in project cycle and financial management
  • Experience in working with Theory of Change
  • Proven track-record with development, coordination and writing of highly competitive resource mobilization concept notes and proposals.
  • Proven ability to build and manage strong partnerships with many different actors
  • Work experience from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement or other humanitarian organizations is preferable
  • Experience of working with mental health and psychosocial support is an added advantage, but not a requirement for this position
  • Excellent skills in written and oral English; knowledge of Arabic, French, and/or Spanish is an added value.

About the PS Centre

The IFRC Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support (PS Centre) works under the framework of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), and supports National Societies in promoting and enabling the psychosocial well-being of beneficiaries, staff and volunteers. The PS Centre is hosted by Danish Red Cross.

In addition, the PS Centre collaborates with a number of external research institutions and stakeholders in the field of MHPSS. Since 2016, the PS Centre has been co-chairing the Interagency Standing Committee (IASC) Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, which consists of more than 30 members, and fosters a unique collaboration between NGOs, UN and International Agencies and academics, promoting best practices in MHPSS in emergencies.

Employment Conditions

Danish Red Cross is the legal employer and the position is a local contract based in Copenhagen. The assignment will commence on 15 May 2020, or as soon as possible, and ends on 30 April 2021. The position is a maternity cover but there is a possibility of extension based on funding and proven track record in mobilising resources.

Salary level and benefits will be in accordance with the Danish Red Cross’ Collective Bargain Agreement. The position is classified for salary between DKK 41.300 -47.600 per month incl. pension, and according to qualifications and experience.
