Heartbeat of Humanity: The links between MHPSS and caring for staff and volunteers

Caring for staff and volunteers is not something that trickles down only from the top. Everybody has a role to play to ensure that you have a work environment – or an environment in general – that caters to your well-being

Take a listen to this episode of Heartbeat of Humanity, where PS Centre MHPSS Technical Advisors Arz Stephan and Guleed Dualeh discuss the links between MHPSS and caring for staff and volunteers.

During the conversation, Arz and Guleed cover many aspects of MHPSS and care including the importance of caring for Red Cross Red Crescent staff and volunteers, preventing burnout, and cultivating self-care and well-being. They also discuss recent Caring for Staff and Volunteers workshops conducted in Copenhagen and Budapest, the power of role-playing scenarios, the “Buddy-system”, whistle-blowing, trust and confidentiality, and the feedback from the workshop participants, as well as challenges that can arise when working towards ensuring care for staff and volunteers.
