Heartbeat of Humanity: Memorials and Healing

People react differently to crises. They grieve differently. They remember differently, so to not cause further harm, whoever is striving to achieve a permanent memorial has to consider broad consultation beyond the directly affected people, to family and friends, but also to people who just happened to be at the location or in the region when the crisis happened

In this latest episode of Heatbeart of Humanity, Communications Officer Trine Rosa Larsen interviews MHPSS Technical Advisor Shona Whitton about memorials and healing. In the interview, they come across what memorials are, what kind of traumatic events can constitute the need for a permanent memorial, some of the famous memorials around the world, and some of the things that must be taken into account when wanting to create a permanent memorial such as the different wishes of the crisis-affected. What do you do when family members want the world to remember their loved ones while perhaps survivors or the local community want nothing more than to forget and move on? Have a listen and find out.
