Videos: Let’s Talk about Psychological First Aid

The PS Centre has produced two videos introducing and explaining the principles of Psychological First Aid, also known as PFA. PFA is a set of skills and knowledge that can be used to help people who are in distress and it is also a way of helping people to feel calm and able to cope in a difficult situation.

“You do not need to be a mental health professional to provide PFA. Anyone can learn how to provide PFA through simple training.”, says Pernille Hansen, Technical Advisor in the PS Centre.

The first video, ‘Let’s Talk about Psychological First Aid’ introduces PFA and describes when, where and why you provide PFA. The second video, ‘Psychological First Aid: Look. Listen, Link’ explains in more detail how PFA is provided using the action principles of look, listen and link.

Pernille Hansen: “Of course, these two videos cannot replace proper PFA training, but hopefully they can provide simple information for people to support others who are in distress. And maybe they can inspire people to participate in PFA trainings and to read some of the many resources about PFA in the PS Centre resource library.”

Pernille Hansen is the author of ‘A Guide to Psychological First Aid’, one of the most downloaded publications in the PS Centre resource Library and one of the different training modules on Psychological First Aid.
