Collaboration and Coordination on MHPSS

Coordination and collaboration are essential when responding to mental health and psychosocial needs (from basic to specialized needs) to ensure comprehensive and complementary interventions. A number of documents and guidelines exist to facilitate coordination and collaboration within and outside the Movement. The importance of comprehensive and complementary interventions is outlined in Resolution 2: Addressing mental health and psychosocial needs of people affected by armed conflicts, natural disasters and other emergencies, and adopted in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement policy.

Why collaboration matters

Developing a holistic approach through collaboration to delivering MHPSS services enhances access to services.

Examples of coordination and collaboration

The purpose of the lessons-learned materials (report, webinar) is to inform and guide partners in the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement for strengthened collaboration and coordination at country/operational level.

The audience for the report is twofold: managers and practitioners working with MHPSS; and decision-makers who influence the Movement’s MHPSS agenda. The lessons learned materials were produced by Working Group 2, which focus on the operationalization of Priority Action Area 2 “Develop a holistic MHPSS approach between Movement components and in collaboration with other actors”. It focused mainly on the collaboration and coordination with Movement partners while recognizing that most National Societies informing the lessons-learned report were part of various technical working groups and partnerships on the country level.
